What is therapy?
Therapy is a process used to move people forward in life. It involves clarifying where you are now and helps you to create what you would like to achieve, what you would like to have in your life, and/or who you want to be. When your family is changing, going through this process is even more important. Therapy involves helping you develop strategies and specific action steps to reach your new goals.
What therapy is NOT…
My therapy practice uses the coaching model, which draws from a range of disciplines. This model of therapy is concerned with RESULTS rather than understanding or processing events of the past. The focus is on ACTION and on the FUTURE, rather than the past (although a look into the past can help).
Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my own problems…
Everyone experiences challenges in life. And while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you’ve faced, there’s nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. When you make the decision to attend therapy, you take responsibility for yourself by acknowledging where you’re at, what you are struggling with, and you make a commitment for positive change. Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, gives you the tools you need to make lasting change and overcome whatever challenges you are facing.
How can therapy help me?
There is no stigma to seeking help. A number of benefits are available from participating in therapy. Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief, stress management, body image issues, and creative blocks. Many people find that therapists can be a great asset to help them manage personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the hassles of daily life. Therapists can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution. The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on how you commit to the process and practice what you learn. Some of the benefits available from therapy include: Develop a better understanding of yourself, your goals, and values Develop skills for improving your relationships, communication, and listening skills Resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seek therapy Learn new ways to cope with stress and anxiety as well as how to manage anger, grief, depression, and other emotional pressures Discard old negative behavior patterns and develop new positive behaviors Improve your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence
What does therapy do?
Therapy works in conjunction with other treatments, i.e., medication. While medication can be helpful, it does not teach you coping skills, give you the tools you need to manage your situations, or teach you to look at life’s challenges from a different perspective. Long term solutions and change cannot be achieved solely with medication. Therapy will help you address your challenges and foster the change you desire for lasting success.
Do you accept insurance?
Some insurance accepted.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes, with a few exceptions, by law, communications between a client and therapist are considered confidential. Prior written consent by the client is necessary before any information is disclosed to any party.
Exceptions to the Confidentiality Law
Some exceptions to the confidentiality law include but may not be limited to:
- suspected dependent adult abuse, elder abuse, or child abuse. Your therapist is required by law to immediately report suspected abuse to the appropriate authorities.
- the therapist is required to notify the police if a client is threatening bodily harm to another person.
- if a client intends to harm himself/herself. Every effort is made to work with such clients to ensure their safety. Additional measures are taken, if necessary, to achieve this positive outcome.
